General:

As of January 13, 2003 I have no documentation whatsoever that Dillie Ann Gregory was the spouse of James "Bud" McFadden. But here are the reasons I have her listed as such:

#1. On the marriage application of Garfield McFadden he lists his parents as James and Dillie Ann McFadden.

#2. On the marriage application of Abe McFadden he also lists his parents as James and Dillie Ann McFadden.

#3. On the base of the grave marker for Dillie Ann Gregory is the inscription, "Erected by James McFadden".

#4. Per her grave marker, Dillie Ann Gregory dies in 1909.

#5. In the 1910 Laurel County, Kentucky Census James "Bud" McFadden is now living with his parents, Abraham and America. Also in the household are three
grandchildren of Abraham's; Garfield age 6, Abe age 5 and America age 3. I am assuming that after Dillie Ann dies, James "Bud" and his children move in with
his parents.

#6. On the marriage application of James "Bud" McFadden to Emily Brock in 1924 he states that he is a "widower".

#7. Garfield McFadden is buried beside Dillie Ann Gregory at Mt. Salem Cemetery, Laurel County, Kentucky.

#8. Remembering that Dillie Ann dies in 1909, there is yet another grave marker nearby for "Daisy Johnson Daughter of James McFadden. She was born January 17, 1911 and dies December 29, 1912 If this is James "Bud" McFadden's daughter I question why the last name for this young child is "Johnson".

#9. In the 1920 Census for Laurel County, Kentucky a new grandson, Caleb McFadden, age 7 shows up living with the other grandchildren in the home of Abraham and America McFadden. In that particular Census James "Bud" McFadden is not listed. Caleb is born September 12, 1912. On his marriage application he lists his parents as James McFadden and Susie. On Caleb's death certificate his mother is listed as Susan Whitis.

#10. In this same Mt. Salem Cemetery is a grave marker for "Susie Wife of James McFadden born January 2, 1893 Died October 3, 1912." Around this particular grave site are Whitis Family sites as well. If this is indeed Caleb McFadden's mother she would have died when he was but three weeks old.

I do have a question as to why James "Bud" McFadden would have Dillie Ann's last name listed as "Gregory" on the tombstone.

Marriage Notes (James Bud McFadden)

On the marriage application to Emily Brock in Marriage Book Number 42 Page 229 of the Laurel County Court Clerk's Office James Bud McFadden states that he is 48 years old, that he is a widower and this is his second marriage.

On the marriage application for Garfield McFadden to Maggie McCowan recorded in Marriage Book Number 42 Page 503 of the Laurel County Court Clerk's Office Garfield states that his parents are: Bud and Dillie Ann McFadden.
