November 18, 1898 edition of the Mountain Echo reports that, " A most happy event came off in Piney Woods on Friday last. The occasion being the marriage of Mr. Robert McFadden and Miss Ida Barnett. The contracting parties both stand high in the social circle of that locality. The bride is a beautiful and retiring young lady, of the brunette type, and her admirers were all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. The groom is a very promising young man, a farmer by profession. Among the many friends who had the pleasure of attending the happy wedding were: Misses Sarah Barnett, Lucy Wyan, Laura Speaks, Lucy Staniford, Dora Mitchell, Mollie McFadden, Theanie McFadden, Hattie Green, Lillie Staniford. Messrs. James Green, Jno. L. Riley, Vincent McFadden, Hume McFadden, Sam Barnett, Charlie Bryant, Joe Speaks, Roy E. Speaks, Gill Taylor, Henisan Stanifield and Bill Green.
Robert and Ida McFadden are listed in the 1900 United States Census for North Carolina, Swain, Forneys Creek, District 105. Ida says she has had one child who does not survive. Robert says he is a Teamster and that his mother was born in the State of Virginia.
