General:
Jesse enlisted as a Corporal in the Union Army in 1861 along with his father, John in Lexington, Kentucky. Enlisted in Company H, 24th Infantry Regiment Kentucky. Mustered out on January 31, 1865 in Covington, Kentucky.
He served as Sheriff of Laurel County from 1871 to 1879.
1877. Jesse C. McFadden as Sheriff of Laurel County recommends his brother Pleasant McFadden be appointed as Deputy Sheriff. Laurel County Court Order Book G Page 173.
Owned and operated a drug store in London, Kentucky.
On February 7, 1879 the Mountain Echo reported that, "J. C. McFadden and Dr. H. S. Pitman have dissolved partnership in the London Drug Store."
On December 17, 1880 the Mountain Echo reported that "Mr. J. C. McFadden, ex-Sheriff of this county after an absence of several months in Texas, returned home last Wednesday. Jesse looks well and we hope he feels the same way." This may explain why Jesse does not show up in the Laurel County Kentucky 1880 Census.
On March 25, 1881 the Mountain Echo reported that J. C. McFadden was serving on the Laurel County Grand Jury.
On January 30, 1880 the Mountain Echo reported that, "New Firm: William Lovelace, Jr. and Mr. John Wren have bought out the Drug Store of McFadden and Durham and ask the public to extend to them a share of patronage, and say they will give the best rates possible."
In 1920 Laurel County, Kentucky Census Jesse is living alone at 75 years of age in the Rockhouse precinct.
