General:
On July 20, 1860 Darling Jones and his wife Nancy are enumerated in the Clay County, Kentucky Census as apparently living in Manchester, Kentucky. He gives his occupation as a farmer and states that he and his wife Nancy were both born in Laurel County. He states he is 26 years of age and Nancy is 24. Their children are America, age four born in Clay County, Angeline age two born in Clay County and another daughter born that year possibly named, "Sally Ann". I can't make out the exact name. It's on page 147 of the 1860 Clay County, Kentucky Census.
Per Shirley Martin Chandler: "Darling was in the 7th KY Infantry. Darling Jones was enrolled on the 19th day of August, 1861 at London, KY in Co. "C", 7th Regt. of Ky. Infantry Volunteers to serve three years..mustered into service as a private on the 22nd day of September, 1861 at Camp Dick Robinson. Witnessed by Melville Phelps and Jas. I. Weaver, 9 June 1879 (Pension Application). Honorably discharged on October 5, 1864. Personal description 29 years, 5'10" 1/2, dark complexion, dark hair, dark eyes. He was ill all through his service which included Cumberland Ford, KY, Vicksburg, MS, Laurel Co., Helena AR, St. Louis, Memphis and Benton Barracks near St. Louis. In 1879 he was 45, living in Clay County, a farmer."
