General:
USGENWEB, Claiborne County, TN website, contains a section on Military Records for residents of that county. One of the documents displayed there lists "Captian Henry Hunter's Company, Colonel William Johnson's Regiment, during the War of 1812. This company was called into service on September 20, 1814 and was mustered in at Tazewell, TN. The company was made up of men from several different counties. This company was part of the force General Andrew Jackson left at Mbile, AL to prevent the British landing there. The person who entered the record on the web site warns that there are possible clerical errors, e.g. "...Jacob Bolinger (and others) were known to be residents of Claiborne County, ...", yet the document states that he entered from Grainger County. The original record is reported to be housed at the Tennessee State Library and Archives.
Henry, Hunter, Captain, is the first man listed on the above-described document. He is listed as having joined the company from Claiborne County, TN.
